nice to meet you again. Hope all is running well. In this post I would like to bring “learn German and travel” approach to your attention by sharing brief instruction how to purchase Flixbus tickets. New words and explanations are included as well. So, let’s get started.
First of all, we navigate to Flixbus main page: FlixBus: Erschwingliche Busreisen durch Deutschland & Europa
If you have already your account, you can sign-in (anmelden). To log out abmelden is an opposite action.
Günstige Fernbus- und Zugreisen means low cost long-distance bus and train trips.
Einfache Fahrt is one-way trip, meanwhile Hin- und Rückfahrt – is round-trip. Any time you purchase a ticket you can select the most suitable option.
Von Wien nach Berlin is simple – from Vienna to Berlin.
Passengers (der Fahrgast singular/die Fahrgäste plural), bicycle (das Fahrrad, singular/ die Fahrräder plural) we can select from the drop-down list.
Adults (Erwachsener, singular without article, der Erwachsene singular, with article. Same is relevant for plural – Erwachsene without, and die Erwachsenen with article). Children (die Kinder, plural; das Kind – the child, singular). Clicking “+” you add passengers (hinzufügen), in case of “–” – remove them “entfernen“.
Attention, option “Meine Unterkunft finden“ – Find my accommodation redirects you to booking.com portal.
Here Schnellste Fahrt means fastest ride, Niedrigster Preis – lowest price. 1 Platz zu diesem Preis verfügbar is 1 seat available at this price. Let’s say, I decided to have the fastest ride, therefore I click “Weiter” (Further)
Sections 1,2: Vorname – first name, Nachname – last name, surname.
*Benötigte Information – information required.
Sitzplatzreservierung – seat reservation, Sitzplatz auswählen – select seat, freier Nebensitz – free adjacent seat (you may have 2 sits at your disposal).
Section 3 Extra – Inbegriffen per Person (included per person, your standard luggage allowed). Zusatzgepäck (das) – additional luggage can be added as well.

Sections 4,5 After we enter e-mail/phone details, next steps will be payment methods. I prefer payment by card (die Kartenzahlung, verb “zahlen” – to pay).
die Kartennummer – card number, Gültig bis – valid until, der Karteninhaber – card holder. If you wish to enter billing address (die Rechnungsadresse hinzufügen), please click “+” and fill-in the corresponding form for individual or company. Confirm the data with “Bestätigen” button.
At this stage, before clicking “Jetzt bezahlen” – Pay now, if there is a voucher available, “Gutschein einlösen” option (redeem voucher) gives you some savings, that could be spent in the future, for example buy an ice cream:)
Statement “Ich erkläre mich mit den Allgemeinen Buchungsbedingungen, der Servicegebühr und den Allgemeinen Beförderungsbedingungen einverstanden und bestätige, dass ich die Datenschutzerklärung zur Kenntnis genommen habe.” means “I agree to the General Booking Conditions, the Service Fee and the General Conditions of Carriage and confirm that I have read the Privacy Policy.”
Finally, after acceptation you are redirected to your online banking, where you should approve the transaction and have online ticket generated. After couple of minutes you will receive e-mail the booking attached. If you are using Flixbus mobile app, the process is identical with the small difference, that you can get your online ticket without any extra steps.
To sum up current post, we have learned following useful expressions: Hin- und Rückfahrt, Sitzplatz auswählen, Rechnungsadresse hinzufügen, Jetzt bezahlen, Gutschein einlösen, some nouns such as Fahrgast, Sitzplatzreservierung, Fahrt, Nebensitz, Zusatzgepäck, Kartenzahlung, Kartennummer, Karteninhaber and verbs abmelden, anmelden, hinzufügen, entfernen, bezahlen, bestätigen, einlösen.
