Hello friends,

best trips to all of you. In today’s article we will learn countries in German. You may ask me, why is this topic so important? And I give you a simple answer: we all are coming from different countries and the first question you’ll hear as a pupil, student, specialist coming to German-speaking countries is following:

Woher kommst du? Woher kommen Sie?

Another alternative questions with the same meaning are given below:

Wo kommst du her? Wo kommen Sie her?

Aus welchem Land bist du? Aus welchem Land sind Sie?

Wie ist dein Heimatland? Wie ist Ihr Heimatland?

Aus welchem Land stammst du? Aus welchem Land stammen Sie?

If someone comes from Germany, the answer will be simple: Ich komme aus Deutschland. Ich bin aus Deutschland. Mein Heimatland ist Deutschland. Ich stamme aus Deutschland.

Please note in colloquial language the answer is extremely short: Aus Deutschland. Few native speakers will say: Ich komme aus Detuschland. Still since we are learning Hochdeutsch (German’s literary, classical form) we will answer “Ich komme aus Belgien, Frankreich...” just not to lose points during the language test:) Remember that, friends.
